The Mumbai police have confirmed that the supplementary chargesheet against IPS officer Saurabh Tripathi has yet to be filed in the alleged extortion case involving angadia (courier) operators in Mumbai.
Tripathi was suspended on March 10, 2022, following his alleged involvement in the case after multiple complaints were filed against him.
In November 2022, the Bombay High Court granted Tripathi interim protection from arrest, which was later made absolute.
More than a year after his suspension, the government reinstated Tripathi on June 28, 2023. Two months after his suspension was revoked, Tripathi was posted as DCP in the State Intelligence Department.
In September 2024, the court expressed concerns about the state's progress in the case against Tripathi and his brother-in-law, Ashutosh Mishra, and sought clarification on the evidence and the possibility of filing a chargesheet.
