Four persons said to be Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly illegally living in India. They were caught following a tip-off from 'encounter specialist' Daya Nayak.
The crime branch’s unit 9 apprehended the accused – Poppy Hussain, 30, (female), Mohammad Hussain, 25, Noor Makbul, 55, and Faisal Sheikh, 31 – from the Juhu area on Wednesday. The accused had been living in India without valid documentation and falsely claimed Indian citizenship when questioned.
According to the FIR, the quartet insisted they were Indians, but failed to recite the national anthem. Further inspection revealed they had no valid documents to substantiate their claims, leading to their arrest under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further probe is on to check on their activities and possible connections to other illegal immigration networks. Authorities have also alerted immigration officials for further action.
