Mumbai: Alliance Air flight from Mumbai to Bhuj and then back to Mumbai were cancelled on Sunday morning, leaving passengers on both the routes stranded. The early morning flights were the last flights of the day connecting both the cities, leaving passengers in trouble even after paying surged airfare.
On Sunday, the Alliance Air flight 9I625 from Mumbai to Bhuj was cancelled as the aircraft did not reach Mumbai airport. The passengers waiting to board the plane were informed that the 6.50am flight was delayed.
However after delaying the flight till 10am, the passengers were informed that the flight was cancelled.
The aircraft from Mumbai reaches Bhuj at 8.40am and again leaves for Mumbai at 9.05am from Bhuj Airport. However as the aircraft never took off from Mumbai to reach Bhuj, it could not take-off from Bhuj as well, leaving passengers on the route stranded as well. Passengers on both the routes were stranded as the Alliance Air flight at early morning is the last flight in the day connecting both the cities.
Passengers expressed dissent claiming that they had to face the ordeal even after paying surged price for airfare. The 1hr 50min flight connecting both the cities usually charges from anywhere between Rs7,000 to Rs15,000. The airfare for this route on Monday ranged at Rs14,661. On the other hand, airfare for Air India, the parent company of Alliance Air, on the route on Monday ranged at Rs22,598.
Anshul Vachharajani, president of Kutch Tour Operators’ Association, who was also at Mumbai Airport waiting for his flight to Kandla, saw the passengers ordeal and reflected that the airline has been causing trouble for passengers. “This is not the first time that the flight on this route was cancelled. This route is one of the costiest domestic air route in the country according to aerial distance, still the service that passengers receive is unacceptable,” said Vachharajani.
He also added that multiple passengers were flying to Kutch to enjoy their vacation at the Rann Utsav Tent City. However, they had to bare the loss as they couldn’t reach Kutch on time and the tent bookings are non-refundable. The Free Press Journal contacted Alliance Air for a comment but did not receive any reply until the time of press.
