Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A constable posted at the 14th Battalion of the Special Armed Force (SAF) allegedly died by suicide on Friday.

It is said that he consumed poison at his residence in Gwalior’s Sikandar Kampoo area of Rajput Colony under the Girwai police station.

According to information, the constable was identified as Devendra Singh, son of Darshan Singh. He was reportedly suspended due to departmental complaints. After suspension, he had been struggling with depression. 

As per sources, he had been suspended for being absent from duty, and an inquiry was underway into the matter.

Constable's health deteriorated after he came home

Girwai police station in-charge Surendra Nath Singh stated that Devendra returned home on Friday night and went straight to his room. 

After some time, his health started to deteriorate. Seeing this, his family members rushed him to the hospital. Despite receiving treatment, Devendra passed away around midnight.

It was also reported that Devendra had a habit of drinking alcohol and was often absent from duty. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

At present, the body has been sent for post-mortem, and the family and colleagues are being interrogated to find out the exact reason behind the constable taking such an extreme step.
