The BMC has undertaken a road-widening project for 'Bhaskar Bhopi Road,' which connects the T-junction in Marve to Madh Jetty. The objective of the project is to expand the road to a width of 27.45 meters, establishing a crucial link between Malad and Andheri. Additionally, the project will connect the road to the Madh-Versova Bridge. However, the project will impact 529 structures and 420 land parcels. These structures will be cleared in phases, as confirmed by a civic official.
The Bhaskar Bhopi Road, starting from the 'T Junction' at Marve Road (INS-HAMLA) and heading towards Madh Jetty, connects several beaches, including Aksa Beach, Erangal Beach, and Dana Pani Beach. In recent years, the condition of this road has deteriorated, making travel difficult. So the BMC initiated the process to upgrade and widen the road. The project is expected to not only enhance the road's condition but also reduce travel time between key areas like Malad and Andheri.
Currently, the width of this road varies between 6.00 to 8.00 meters along different stretches, making it prone to traffic jams and accidents. The BMC's P/North ward has undertaken the road widening as per the sanctioned Development Plan-2034. A senior civic official said, "The project has been initiated due to the increasing vehicular traffic in the area. The widening aims to eliminate accident-prone zones, thereby reducing accidents. Moreover, the expanded road will be connected to the Madh-Versova Bridge, creating a vital link between Malad and Andheri. This connection is expected to reduce travel time."
He further added that, according to a survey conducted by the BMC, the widening project will affect 529 structures and 420 land parcels in total. In Phase-I, notices have been issued for the removal of 37 structures and 31 open plots. The remaining affected properties will receive notices in the upcoming phases of the project.
