Mumbai: The Malvani police registered an FIR against four Individuals for alleged murder. The case was filed after an order was passed by a local court in Kolkata.
The accused allegedly murdered a 33-year-old man, pretended he had committed suicide, and later destroyed evidence of the crime. They also refused to send his body to his home in Kolkata and performed the last rites without his family’s consent. The accused are villagers of the deceased. The case was filed on January 7.
According to the FIR, the deceased, Jogan Hansda, 33, hailed from Dangarpada village in West Bengal. On October 10, 2024, he, along with his fellow villagers Mayarani Singh, Nimay Singh, Bapi Singh, and Lochan Singh, arrived in Mumbai for work. He began working at a sweet factory in Malvani while his family remained in his village.
On October 19, around 5 a.m., the accused, Mayarani Singh, called Hansda's wife and informed her that her husband had committed suicide. His wife requested that the body be sent to their village, but the accused refused and performed the last rites in Mumbai instead.
Hansda's wife, Parvati, 25, stated in the FIR that she had spoken with her husband on October 18 over the phone. At that time, he did not seem to be under any stress. Singh told her that her husband's body was found hanging at his house in the Buddhavihar area, Gate No. 5, Malvani. Parvati was shocked upon hearing the news. Since she and her relatives could not travel to Mumbai, she repeatedly requested Singh to send the body to their village, but the accused ignored her requests.
Feeling suspicious, Parvati approached the Salboni local police station and filed a complaint against Mayarani Singh, Nimay Singh, Bapi Singh, and Lochan Singh. However, the police did not conduct an investigation.
Subsequently, she approached a local court, which ordered the case to be registered. Following the court's directive, the local police registered the case and transferred it to the Malvani police.
The case has been filed under Sections 103 (murder) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The Malvani police have now begun their investigation.
