Thane: A 39-year-old woman and her three-and-a-half-year-old son were killed after being hit by a dumper in Kalyan on Wednesday morning. The deceased have been identified as Nisha Someshkar, 39, and Ansh Someshkar, 3.5, residents of Thankar area in Kalyan. The driver is identified as Vaibhav Wayrad.

Ansh was studying in nursery at a school in Kalyan. They had all lived in Mumbai earlier. A few years ago, they shifted to Kalyan. The deceased Ansh's father Amit Someshkar, works in a private firm. On Tuesday, he left Kalyan headed to Bangalore for his workplace.

The incident took place at the Dakshinmukhi Hanuman temple at 11:30 AM on Wednesday when she went to school to pick up her son. They were returning from school when they met with an accident.

The police reportedly said that a Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation garbage dumper was headed towards Durgadi Road from Shahajanand Chowk and dashed into them from the opposite direction while both were crossing the road. Both fell on the road and sustained serious injuries to their heads and bodies.

Locals rushed to the spot, alerted the police, and took them to a nearby Rukhmani Bai Hospital, where they were both declared dead upon arrival. The police notified Amit about the accident, and he left for Kalyan.

The Bazarpeth police have arrested the driver of the dumper, Vaibhav Wayland, 26. A case has been registered against the driver of KDMC under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

In Kalyan, there are not any traffic signals in several places such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Shahajanand Chowk, Gurudev Hotel Chowk, and Lal Chowki. The local political party staged a protest after an accident; they raised questions with the transport department and Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation over the safety and security of pedestrians and the public while walking on the road.

They demanded to build a divider here immediately. After the police and the concerned department intervened to remove the crowd on the road. The local residents said that the traffic police should be deployed here because there are several schools in this jurisdiction. The traffic signal should be installed to avert road accidents.
