Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A 40-year-old man hanged himself to death following constant extortion by a family of blackmailers in Madhya Pradesh's Dabra.
The deceased has been identified as Santosh Jatav (40). His body was found hanging in a vacant room on the second floor of his house in Ambedkar Colony.
Investigations revealed that a woman from a nearby colony, Anita Valmiki, was threatening to make his secretly-recorded obscene video viral on social media.
Accused woman & husband extorted Rs 20k
According to the police, Anita, along with her husband Rameshwar Sahu and son Munna Valmiki, trapped Santosh by recording a private video.
They used the video to demand money and threatened to make it viral if he refused. Santosh, fearing defamation, had already paid ₹20,000, but the trio continued to press him for more money.
It was also revealed that the woman, her husband, and son had used similar tactics to blackmail several other people.
Her husband and son helped her hide mobile phones to record videos. The police have recovered additional videos from their devices.
Santosh worked as a salesman at a petrol pump, had been missing since Sunday afternoon. On Monday, his family filed a missing person’s report. On Tuesday, his wife, Girija, found his body hanging in a vacant room of their house.
Police have registered a case against Anita, Rameshwar, and Munna.
Station in-charge Yashwant Goyal said the trio is being interrogated to identify how many people they have blackmailed.
Complaints of similar incidents involving the woman have also been received.
