Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a move to ensure smooth traffic flow and reclaim footpaths for pedestrians, the district administration and Indore Municipal Corporation conducted a joint anti-encroachment drive along the stretch between MG Road (56 shops) and Palasia Square on Friday.

Acting on the instructions of municipal commissioner Shivam Verma, officials targeted illegal encroachments, warning the encroachers of stricter action if they again setup their shops illegally on the route.

The joint operation, led by Pradeep Soni (SDM), Hindu Muvel (ACP) and other key officials, saw the removal of various unauthorised structures. During the drive, 20 illegally occupied shops were vacated and two illegal constructions on the footpath were dismantled.

Authorities also removed unauthorised signage and issued fines totaling Rs 23,000 to violators. “This initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and improving traffic conditions on one of the busiest routes. The drive was conducted in close coordination, ensuring its success,” Soni said.

Officials said that the drive will continue across other areas of the city to create a safer, more organised urban environment.
