Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has implemented stringent measures to ensure safety and law enforcement for this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31. Over 14,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed across the city to maintain order and crack down on violators, with a particular focus on those driving under the influence and breaking traffic rules, according to a police official.
As part of the comprehensive security plan, a heightened police presence will be maintained around Chowpatty, major hotels, and temples to prevent untoward incidents. The Traffic Police, State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) units, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and Home Guard personnel will be stationed to ensure law and order. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against individuals attempting to disrupt public harmony.
To reinforce security, all police leave for December 31 has been canceled. The government has also issued specific timings for celebrations to avoid confusion. The police will conduct patrols at busy locations, establish fixed-point barricades, and enforce traffic rules, especially targeting drink-and-drive cases. Special attention will be given to monitoring CCTV footage citywide.
More Than 14,000 Police Personnel Deployed
According to police sources, 14,232 officers and personnel will be stationed across Mumbai. This includes 2,184 police officers and 12,048 staff dedicated to law enforcement. The deployment will also involve eight Additional Police Commissioners, 29 Deputy Police Commissioners, and 53 Assistant Police Commissioners, supported by SRPF, Quick Response Teams (QRT), BDDS, Rapid Control Police (RCP), and Home Guard units.
Blood Tests for Drunk Drivers
As in previous years, the Traffic Police will conduct blood tests on suspected drunk drivers instead of using breath analyzers. Strict penalties, including the potential suspension of driving licenses, will be imposed on those found guilty, ensuring they cannot operate any vehicle.
These measures underline Mumbai’s commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly celebration for all, aiming for smooth and incident-free New Year’s Eve festivities.
