In a major twist in the murder of Satish Wagh, the maternal uncle of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Yogesh Tilekar, the Pune Police arrested Mohini Wagh on charges of being part of the conspiracy to kill her husband. She and five others were remanded to police custody till December 30 by a court in the city on Thursday. Apart from Mohini Wagh (48), the others who have been arrested are Akshay Harish Jawalkar alias Sonya (29), Pawan Shyamsundar Sharma (30), Navnath Arjun Gursale (31), Vikas Sitaram Shinde (28) and Atish Jadhav.

Here's all you need to know about the case:

Satish Wagh (55), a resident of Manjari Budruk, was kidnapped on December 9 when he was on a morning walk near his house. In the evening of the same day, his body was found near Yavat on the Pune-Solapur Highway, around 40 kilometres from the spot where he was abducted. The investigation revealed that Wagh was stabbed to death and was also beaten with a blunt object.

Later during the probe, it was revealed that Wagh's wife had given a 'supari' of ₹5 lakh to kidnap and murder him. It also came to light that Mohini Wagh had an extra-marital relationship with Akshay Jawalkar. "Jawalkar was a tenant of the Wagh family from 2001 to 2015. Later, he took another home on rent just 500 metres away in the same colony and stayed with his family. Satish Wagh had come to know about his wife's extra-marital relationship. Hence, he used to beat Mohini up over the issue," the police said.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade said, "Mohini Wagh was arrested after evidence showed her involvement in the conspiracy to kill her husband. It has been found in the probe that Mohini had asked Jawalkar to kill her husband. Accordingly, Jawalkar gave ₹5 lakh as 'supari' to four others to execute the murder." "Jawalkar's family was Wagh's tenants for several years. During their stay there, a relationship developed between Akshay and Mohini," he added.

The police said that there was also a business angle in the case. "Mohini wanted to take over Satish Wagh's business. This has been admitted by Jawalkar during the interrogation," the police said. Reportedly, Satish Wagh was a farmer and owned a small eatery. The couple has two sons Omkar and Abhishek.
