Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Two new liquor shops will be opened at Indore’s Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport on January 9. The airport management has issued tenders for these shops.
According to information, one of the shops will be set up in the arrival area for incoming passengers and the second store will be opened in the departure area for outgoing passengers.
The airport had a liquor shop previously, but it was shut down due to irregularities.
₹7.25 lakh monthly rent
As per the data, each shop will cover 20 square meters of area. The minimum monthly rent is set at ₹7.25 lakh.
Previously, the airport generated around ₹22 lakh of revenue per month from the business. The shop located in the arrival area was operational from December 31, 2022 and was shut down on January 3, 2024.
As per sources, there was strong opposition from social organizations and local representatives earlier. They were arguing against selling alcohol at a facility named after Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar. However, the management countered by stating that such shops are standard at international airports.
This time, the airport aims to cater to both arriving and departing passengers with duty-paid liquor shops.
