A 16-year-old boy died after getting injured in a celebratory firing during a birthday party in Patna, Times of India (TOI) reported citing police officials. The firing reportedly took place on Monday (December 23) this week at a lodge withing Sri Krishnapuri police station jurisdiction. The boy, who was admitted to a hospital, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, said the news report. Friends of Rishu Kumar, the deceased, reportedly fled after admitting him into a hospital.
"We had received the information about the firing in the Gandhinagar locality around midnight. The bullet was fired during a birthday party...," said Saket Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, as quoted by TOI.
The news outlet reported citing Shri Krishnapuri Station House Officer (SHO) Pankaj Kumar that around 5-6 teenagers were partying on the terrace of the lodge late at night when the firing took place. The pistol from which the bullet was fired was reportedly unlicensed.
"The police suspect that one of the boys was engaged in the firing during which Rishu Kumar[the deceased], got shot in the neck. His friends took him to a private hospital on Boring Canal Road, and fled. All of them are absconding. The family members of the victim have been informed about the incident. Further action will be taken on the basis of statement from the family," said SHO Kumar as quoted by TOI.
An empty bullet shell was reportedly recovered from the scene.
