Bhopal/Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh): A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Additional Sessions Judge (First) of Ratlam for strangling his wife to death over suspicion of extra-marital affair. The convict was also fined Rs. 5,000.
The court's decision was based on the statements given by the couple’s minor children.
The case traces back to October 2019 when a complaint was filed by the victim's mother against the accused son-in-law. More than a dozen witnesses were called during the proceedings. Statements from the convict's minor children were key in solving the case. After a long judicial probe, the accused was convicted and sent to jail.
According to information, the convict, identified as one Anees Qureshi, is a resident of Banswara area. Additional Public Prosecutor Sanjeev Singh Chauhan informed that the case dates back to October 13, 2019. Shehnaz B, victim's mother and a resident of Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, filed a complaint stating her daughter Nazmeen was married to Anees Qureshi 15 years ago.
A year before the incident, Anees accused Nazmeen of having an illicit relationship with their landlord Salim in Ratlam’s Hat Hod area. Shehnaz claimed to have resolved the matter at the time. However, on the night of October 13, 2019, Shehnaz received a call informing her that Anees had strangled Nazmeen to death.
Mother found strangulation marks on the victim's neck
When Shehnaz reached Ratlam, she found strangulation marks on her daughter’s neck. Nazmeen’s minor son revealed that a quarrel had occurred between his parents. He alleged that his mother expressed her desire to leave Anees and stay with Salim, which enraged Anees, leading him to strangle her twice, resulting in her death.
Station Road Police investigated and presented the case in court. Eighteen witnesses were produced, with the statements of the couple’s minor children being crucial. The court convicted Anees for murder and imposed a life sentence.
