Navi Mumbai: The Orange Metro Line 12, to be executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), will be completed by December 31, 2027. The 23.756 km corridor will connect Kalyan to Taloja and aims to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the region.

The MMRDA has appointed a consortium of SYSTRA SA and DB Engineering & Consultancy GmbH as the general consultant to oversee the project from design review to construction supervision, a senior MMRDA official said.

Additionally, M/s LKT-Enia JV has been appointed as the detailed design consultant for two years, starting November 1, 2023, while M/s. Gawar Construction Pvt Ltd. is responsible for the viaduct and stations, with a contract period from April 1, 2024, to September 30, 2026.

The Mumbai Metro Line 12 will have two interchanges, one with Mumbai Metro Line 5 at Kalyan APMC and the other with Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 at Amandoot (Taloja).

Stating that a depot-cum-workshop is planned at Nilje Gaon, connected to Vadavali Station, an official said that this facility will handle major overhauls, minor repairs, heavy equipment replacement, and testing.

The depot will cover an area of 30.12 hectares and include 12 stabling lines for 24 rakes of six-car trains, three inspection/maintenance lines with an additional 3 planned for future, and four workshop lines. The MMRDA has acquired 57 hectares of government land for the depot and related activities, with detailed planning and estimates underway.

The official said that land acquisition for the non-available stretches is ongoing, coordinated by MMRDA in collaboration with local authorities such as Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Panvel Municipal Corporation and the City and Industrial Development Corporation.
