Mumbai: Spicejet was ranked as the least punctual among all the scheduled domestic airlines at Mumbai International Airport. Vistara had the best on-time performance, followed by Indigo, Akasa Air, Air India and Alliance Air, revealed the air traffic data by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

DGCA released its air traffic data for the month of November 2024 on Tuesday. The data revealed the on-time performance (OTP) of all the airlines for four metro airports including Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. While Air India was the least punctual airline in November at 58.8%, Vistara ranked the highest at 79.3% in the first eleven days of the month, post which it merged with Air India.

Focusing on the Mumbai Airport, Spicejet was the least punctual airline with the OTP of 32.3%. Vistara was the most punctual airline at Mumbai airport with a performance of 67.1% in its 11 days of functioning as a separate airline. Indigo ranked the second at 62.1%, followed by Akasa Air at 58.6%, Air India at 56.6% and Air India’s subsidiary Alliance Air at 42.9%.

DGCA also analysed the reasons for delay and found that the airlines attributed majority of the delays to ‘reactionary’. While 66% delays were caused due to reactionary measures, 12% were attributed to Air Traffic Control, 8% to operations and 4% to passengers. While only 2% delays were attributed to weather, other issues included technical, airport management, ramp and miscellaneous reasons.

DGCA also highlighted that domestic airlines recorded monthly passenger growth of 11.90%. Accpording to the data, 14.64 crore passengers were carried from January to November, compared to 13.82 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Domestic airlines registered an annual passenger growth of 5.91%.

In 2024 until November, Indigo occupied the domestic market by carrying 9 crore passengers comprising of 61.7% of market share. While Air India is making a come back in the sector, its market share remained 15.4%, followed by Vistara at 9%. Akasa Air carried 4.6% of the total flyers, whereas Air Asia captured 4.2% of the market, until it got merged with Air India Express in October.

Notably, FlyBig airline reported the most number of flight cancellations among all the scheduled domestic airlines. While Indiaone Air reported the lowest cancellation rate at 0.27%, FlyBig reported the highest cancellation rate at 36.71%. It also recorded the most passenger complaints during the month, with 20.7 complaints per 10,000 passengers carried.
