Mumbai: The BMC has taken stern action against illegal dumping activities in Borivali West, imposing a fine of Rs 90,000 on violators for dumping construction debris on an open plot near Eksar Metro Railway Station.

This crackdown follows a thorough investigation by civic officials from the R Central ward, who uncovered unauthorised land-filling activities where construction waste was being illegally dumped on the plot adjacent to Jhanshi chi Rani Talav.

The BMC issued a notice under Section 354-A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and launched legal proceedings under Section 52, in conjunction with Section 43 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1996.

The owner/occupier has been held accountable for these illegal actions. To curb illegal dumping, the BMC has imposed a penalty under the Cleanliness and Sanitation Bye-Laws 2006 and has also alerted the traffic police and local authorities to take stringent action against the vehicles involved, including the potential cancellation of their registrations.

Furthermore, the area is now under continuous surveillance by the BMC’s Solid Waste Management Department to ensure that such unlawful activities are promptly addressed and prevented in the future.
