Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Several districts, including Bhopal and Dindori, experienced dense fog and overcast skies since morning. Commuters heading to offices and schools had to travel with vehicle headlights on. Due to the impact of a western disturbance, minimum temperatures have dropped, leading to a rise in cold conditions across the state.

The Meteorological Department predicts the first seasonal showers, known as Mavtha, in Madhya Pradesh between December 23 and 28. Along with rain, hailstorms are also expected in some areas. Rainfall during December is common in the state. This weather pattern may cause a 2–3°C increase in day and night temperatures, but once the system passes, cold conditions will intensify.

According to IMD Bhopal, the western disturbance would bring northwestern winds, which will carry moisture from the Arabian Sea. Additionally, easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will enhance cloud cover, leading to light to moderate rainfall and possible hailstorms.

Record-Breaking December Cold

This December has shattered records, being colder than usual and even colder than January in some areas. Bhopal experienced its coldest December in 58 years, with a 9-day cold wave streak. Schools in several districts adjusted timings, and heaters were installed at Van Vihar National Park for animals. Temples also took measures to protect idols from the cold.
