Mira Bhayandar: The Naya Nagar police along with copyright officials raided three shops that were found to be selling fake branded footwear, mainly sports shoes of international brands.

About The Case

The action followed in response to a complaint registered by the investigating officer attached to legal entities appointed to deal with counterfeit products by the manufacturing firm. Based on the information, the Naya Nagar police accompanied by the complainant swooped down on three retail outlets in Mira Road on Friday.

The team seized a total of 980 pairs of footwear including sports shoes, floaters and slippers worth more than 12.25 lakh. The products were deceptively identical to those bearing the original trademark and logos of international sportswear brands like- Adidas and Nike. The police also recovered more than 300 empty cartons which were tagged with the logos of both the brands, indicating a large-scale circulation of the counterfeit goods under the guise of authentic branded products.

While the inventory was seized, the owners of all three establishments were taken into custody and booked for violating the provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957 (amended 1984 and 1994). Investigations were on to ascertain the source of the counterfeit products.
