Mumbai-based sisters have authored a unique book which contains special recipes of the East Indian community. ‘Jevayla Ye’ is one of the kind book which attempts to promote the culinary heritage of the community which is known as the original catholic community of Mumbai.

Abigail Rebello and Sarsh Rebello authored a book with everyday East Indian recipes they learnt from their mother and grandmother. It features 195 carefully curated recipes, which offer a rich collection of traditional dishes, meticulously researched and passed down through generations, preserving the authentic flavors and heritage of East Indian cuisine.

Abigail runs a web blog called Abby’s Heart where the sisters post about the East Indian recipes, lifestyle and travel related content. As people started gaining interest in the recipes shared by them, the sisters decided to come up with a book which gives details about all the ingredients used in an East Indian dish and the method of cooking.

From soups, starters, fish, mutton, beef, pickles, curry, cakes, wine and more, the book also has special recipes for festivities like Christmas and Easter, including cakes and fusion recipes. The book has also received contributions from Diana Fernandes, Mary Fonseca, Mariette Stewart, Sonja Rebello, Jude Fernandes and Lourdes John.

Abigail said, “Usually, East Indian recipes do not disclose all the ingredients used in the dish but we have noted down all the ingredients to prepare a perfect dish. Jevayla Ye is a collection of homely recipes, the way our mom cooks. It is about the food which we do not care if it is low in calories but it makes us happy.”

Godfrey Pimenta, who wrote a foreword for the book, said, “Abby and Sarah meticulously unravel the layers of this gastronomic heritage, offering a treasure trove of meticulously researched and documented recipes. The collection of the latest East Indian recipes promises to become a cherished staple in households across the East Indian community and beyond, beckoning all who appreciate the artistry of culinary fusion.
