In a stunning display of talent and aggression, 21-year-old Sameer Rizvi smashed an unbeaten 201 off just 97 balls during the men’s Under-23 State A Trophy match against Tripura.

Leading Uttar Pradesh, Rizvi’s extraordinary innings featured 13 fours and 20 sixes, leaving the opposition bowlers hapless. While his blistering double century does not qualify as an official List A record, it remains a testament to his incredible potential in domestic cricket.

The fastest double century in official List A cricket is currently held by New Zealand’s Chad Bowes, who achieved the milestone in 102 balls. Bowes surpassed the previous joint record of 114 balls, set by India’s Narayan Jagadeesan and Australia’s Travis Head.

Although Rizvi’s knock will not enter these record books, it stands out as a remarkable feat of power-hitting and skill, reinforcing his reputation as a rising star in Indian cricket.

Who Is Sameer Rizvi?
Born on December 6, 2003, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Sameer Rizvi has been passionate about cricket since his early years. Despite being only 21, his cricketing journey has been a mix of highs and lows. Rizvi’s domestic career statistics reflect his capabilities: First-class cricket: 9 matches, 152 runs, average 11.69. List A cricket: 11 matches, 205 runs, highest score 61*, average 29.28. T20 cricket: 28 matches, 480 runs, highest score 75*.

Rizvi’s journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been particularly eventful. In the 2025 IPL mega auction, he was signed by the Delhi Capitals for ₹95 lakh, a significant drop from the ₹8.4 crore bid by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) the previous season.

Rizvi endured an underwhelming debut IPL season, scoring just 51 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 118.60. CSK released him ahead of the 2025 auction, opting not to retain the uncapped player for ₹4 crore.

While Rizvi’s IPL performance has yet to match expectations, his recent double-century showcases his immense potential. As a player often described as a hard-hitting batsman with the ability to turn games around, Rizvi’s journey is one to watch as he continues to hone his skills and leave his mark on Indian cricket.
