A 16-year-old student preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in Kota, India, has tragically taken their own life. The incident occurred in the Vigyan Nagar police station area, despite the hostel room being equipped with an anti-hanging device meant to prevent suicide.

The student, a class 11th student from Bihar, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room on Friday. Circle Inspector Mukesh Meena confirmed the incident, stating that the student had been living in Kota since April to prepare for the JEE.

This is the 17th reported case of suicide by coaching students in Kota this year, with 26 cases recorded in 2023.

In a similar incident, last month, an 18-year-old boy from Anuppur in Madhya Pradesh, allegedly died by suicide in the Jawahar Nagar area. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogesh Sharma, Vivek jumped from the sixth floor of his hostel around midnight.

He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Vivek had been preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a coaching institute since April. Police are investigating both cases.
