Mumbai: The special Anti Corruption court on Friday remanded Mandar Tari, Executive Engineer (Designated Officer) with K East Ward of BMC to three days ACB custody observing that investigation is required to be done for his role.
Tari had surrendered before the special court on Thursday after his plea for anticipatory bail was rejected by Bombay High Court. As he surrendered before the court, Anti Corruption Bureau moved a plea to arrest him. Followed by his arrest Tari was produced before the court on Friday.
The prosecution while seeking Tari's custody for three days argued that much time has been wasted in tracing out whereabouts of this accused. Though the accused himself surrendered before this Court, but considering the nature of allegations made against him in the FIR detail investigation as to amount involved is to be conducted. Further, the prosecution argued that the end use of the amount involved is also to be inquired.
The defence however argued that the two accused arrested in the case have already been released on bail and investigation has been already done. The court however said that the investigation so as to Tari's roles is required to be done and remanded him to ACB custody.
As per the complaint registered by one Goldie Sood, with ACB, it is claimed that, Sood owns a property situated at Shahid Bhagat Singh Colony, J.B. Nagar. The issue started when Tari issued notice to Sood allegedly for unauthorized construction. While the legal battle between the ward and Sood, Tari demanded Rs 2 crores to not take action.
Sood hence had approached the ACB, against Tari. With the help of ACB, Sood negotiated with Tari. It was agreed that Sood would pay Rs 75 lakhs to Shahajada Shah and Prateek Vijay Pise on behalf of Tari. On August 7, ACB arrested Shah and Pise in the trap but Tari managed to abscond. The ACB in its probe has found that Tari owns several properties.
