Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Women and child development minister has assured the Assembly that none of the children, girls and women living in ashrams or shelter houses run by state government or by NGOs will be left alone on roads to fend for themselves.
The minister was replying to the question of MLA Sitasaran Sharma who in a call attention motion had sought clarification from the minister Nirmala Bhuria that the Central government had announced to stop funding for the scheme from April -2025.
The legislator said that merely four to five months are remaining to implement the guideline of the GoI but the state government neither has infrastructure nor provisioned budget for the operation of such institutions. Bhuria in her reply stated that the state government had not taken any decision to close down the institutions after the GoI decision.
The minister said that the agencies are being run on a 60:40 ratio, with the Centre providing 60% of the funds and the state government contributing 40%. In the state 111 non-government agencies and 26 government-run homes are being operated.
Among them 18 are juvenile homes, three special houses, 67 children shelters, 14-open ashrams and 35 special adaptation shelters are running in the state. These facilities house 2488 children.
Fifteen institutions are being run for the women, they too will not get the funds from the GoI, but the minister assured the House that the government will take care of all the inmates and no one will be left on the roads.
