In a significant move to upgrade infrastructure, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced the temporary relocation of around 150 outstation bus services from the Mumbai Central Bus Depot to nearby depots in Parel, Dadar, and Kurla Nehru Nagar. The relocation, effective from December 23, is necessitated by concrete renovation work set to commence at the Mumbai Central Bus Depot.

The renovation, undertaken in collaboration with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), is part of a broader initiative to upgrade 183 MSRTC bus depots across the state at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crores. The Mumbai Central Bus Depot's renovation, covering approximately 1,900 square meters, will cost Rs 1.64 crores.

This project aims to permanently resolve long-standing issues such as potholes, waterlogging, and dust accumulation.“Several depot renovations are already underway, and the Mumbai Central project will begin shortly. Once completed, passengers will experience a significantly improved environment,” said an MSRTC official.

Currently, Mumbai Central handles approximately 155 daily bus services to various locations across Maharashtra, catering to hundreds of passengers. While outstation services will temporarily operate from Parel, Dadar, and Kurla Nehru Nagar, local services will continue to function from the Mumbai Central Depot itself, minimizing inconvenience for passengers.

The renovation work is expected to last for two months, after which all services will resume operations from the renovated Mumbai Central Bus Depot."Passengers are advised to check the updated schedules and departure points for their convenience during this period. The MSRTC assured that the transition has been planned meticulously to ensure minimal disruption to commuters" said spokesperson of MSRTC.

"This massive upgrade aligns with MSRTC’s efforts to modernize its facilities and enhance passenger experience across Maharashtra" he added.
