Raipur: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) will investigate financial irregularities that occurred in the procurement of medicine in the period of previous Congress led Baghel government, announced the Health and Family Welfare Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on the last day of the winter session .

Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation made bulk purchases of medicine in the previous Congress government.

BJP MLA Dharamlal Kaushik raised his concerns through a call attention motion and alleged that massive irregularities occurred in procurement of the medicine.

BJP MLAs Rajesh Munat and Sushant Shukla, not only supported the concerns raised by Kaushik but also urged the minister to initiate an EOW inquiry.

They alleged that medicines were procured within 15 days through a single tender from the same company multiple times, violating state procurement policy.

In response, Minister Jaiswal acknowledged that the procurement policy was violated during the previous government. He noted that he became aware of the issue in a meeting after taking office and that payment to the company has been put on hold.

He confirmed that excess medicines were procured without demand and stated that the EOW would investigate the financial irregularities.
