Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh high court principal bench at Jabalpur has stayed appointment of high school teachers from the waiting list.

The court has given two weeks time to the government for amendment (rectification) in school teachers’ recruitment rules as per the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines.

The court of Chief Justice Suresh Kait and Justice Vivek Jain issued the directive while hearing petitions on Thursday over violation of the NCTE guidelines in the teachers’ recruitment.

The petitioners had approached court claiming that Madhya Pradesh School Education Department and Tribal Affairs Department have been recruiting high school teachers from 2021 to 2024 in violation of the rules set by the NCTE.

The court has sought the reply from the government whether petitioners can be appointed to the vacant positions. If not, the court has stated that appointments of teachers with less than 50% marks will be canceled, and fresh counseling will be required as per the revised rules.

The court has been informed through an affidavit that there are 448 teachers who scored between 45% and 50% in their postgraduate were appointed because the second division was mentioned in their mark sheet. But petitioners with marks less than 50% and more than 45% have not been appointed because a third division was written in their mark sheet.

Senior advocate Rameshwar Singh Thakur told the court that there was an advertisement for recruitment on more than 17,000 posts but appointments have been made only on 12,000 posts.

“The court has asked the government to inform on the next hearing dated 19/12/24 whether the petitioners can be appointed on the vacant posts or not, otherwise the appointment of all the teachers with less than 50% marks will have to be cancelled and counselling will have to be done again as per the revised rules,” the advocate said quoting the order.
