Shy and unassuming, Anahat Singh is the biggest sensation in Indian squash at the moment and a 16-year-old prodigy waiting to explode on the world scene.

The Delhi girl is looked upon as a potential Olympic medallist from India and the young lass is beaming with the reactions.

"It is a bit overwhelming for me. I mean its everyone's dream. Watching it every few years and hoping to be on the podium someday. It is a bit scary and really exciting as well," she added.

The 11th standard student of the British School in Delhi was also happy with the inclusion of squash for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

"It's obviously really exciting. All squash players have been waiting for it like a really, really long time. Now that it is in the Olympics. It happens for me when I'm really at my peak which is in 2028. I have some time to get my game up and just understand how much I need to do to get there and hopefully get a medal once I reach there,'' Anahat stated.

Anahat's had a great year winning seven Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger titles and breaking into the top 100 in the process.

" I'm quite happy with how its gone by. Like this year and next year my main aim is going to be to get my ranking up and win as many tournaments as I can. I've only won some 3ks and 6ks which aren't that big tournaments yet. I'm going to try and play few tournaments so that my ranking can jump up,'' she added.

Elaborating on her thoughts about cracking the top 100, Anahat felt it happened at the right time.

" It took a lot of time as I said I was playing only the small tournaments. When you play the small tournaments, it gets a bit tougher to get into the bigger ones. You need to make sure you have a good ranking to play the slightly bigger tournaments. I'm happy that it took some time, almost a year to get into the top 100. But I think its going to be a lot easier now because I'll be able to play the 20Ks and 25Ks which should be much better for me to go. Hopefully get into the top 50 and then make my way up,'' Anahat explained.

Being the second seed at the ongoing 79th Western India Slam at the CCI Courts, Anahat stated she was looking forward to get her ranking up and clinch the PSA title.

"I'm not playing the juniors. I'm only playing the PSA. It's one of the biggest PSAs till now. I know all of the players, I know what I'm doing getting into the tournament. Hopefully, I can take the title and it will help me a lot in taking the ranking up. It's one of the bigger PSAs and hopefully I can win it and end the year well."

Anahat's main rival in the tournament is likely to be the top seed Akansha Salunkhe and the former is confident of her chances.

"I have played Akansha quite a few times and beaten her once."

The youngster feels enriched about her learnings from what has been a fruitful year.

"My game has jumped up overall. Especially even the last tournament in the World Teams, I got to play so many of the top players. I had really good matches and close matches with a lot of them and I could see how I have improved in the last year. My understanding of the game and experience has definitely grown and I know what to do in situations when I have an opportunity."

Anahat felt winning the PSA titles was the highlight of the year for her.
