Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): The Gwalior district and sessions court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for raping his stepdaughter. The court has also ordered a compensation of Rs. 2.5 lakh to the victim.

The victim's mother remarried after her father's death, and she would stay with the new family. The victim's mother would go out to work in the night shift, leaving her daughter alone with her second husband. Taking the advantage of his wife's odd work timings, the accused would harass his stepdaughter during the night.

According to information, special Judge of District and Sessions Court, Tarun Singh, sentenced the accused after finding him guilty of the crime under Section 6 of POCSO Act. The court said in its order stated that there are serious allegations against the accused, so it is not appropriate to give him the benefit of probation.

The special public prosecutor requested the judge to give the convict the maximum sentence, amid rise in crime against the minors.

According to sources, the mother of the victim used to work as a nurse at a private hospital in the city. She mostly had a night shift and had to leave her daughter alone with her husband. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused would molest the girl. He also threatened her not to tell anything to her mother.

One such day, he raped his own stepdaughter. The victim kept crying and begging, but the accused did not stop. The next day, the victim narrated the ordeal to her mother, who in turn filed a case against him.

Police investigation

The victim's mother filed a complaint at the University Police station. Police immediately took the convict into custody and began the investigation. A medical examination was conducted, which proved the allegations to be true. He was produced before court, where he was sentenced to a punishment of life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000.
