A woman traveling on a bus in Pune slapped a man at least 25 times after he allegedly touch her inappropriately on Thursday.
Despite the woman's repeated warnings, the offender continued to harass her. However, the situation took an astonishing turn when the woman fearlessly stood up for herself and started slapping the harasser while holding him by his collar.
The victim, Priya Laskhare, a sports teacher from Shirdi, was traveling with her husband and child. During the journey, a heavily intoxicated man began harassing her. Refusing to tolerate such behavior, Priya retaliated by physically confronting the man. She later dragged him to the police station near Shaniwarwada.
Commenting on the incident, Priya stressed the importance of unity among women in tackling harassment and violence. "Only when women stand together can such crimes be stopped," she said.
The alleged harasser was also hit by the conductor of thee bus.
No FIR Lodged
When the Free Press Journal team reached the Shaniwarwada police station, the official said, "The lady had come to the police station and told us about the incident. When we asked her to register her complaint, she preferred not to lodge one."
The video is trending on social media but raises serious concerns about the safety of women in public transport.
One aspect of the incident that deeply disappointed Priya was the lack of support from other women passengers on the bus. Despite witnessing the harassment, none of the passengers stepped in to assist her. Instead, they left the bus and moved to another one, leaving Priya to handle the situation with the help of her husband, the driver, and the conductor.
