Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole demanded that audits of school buses be conducted immediately for the safety of students and that school staff be trained in fire prevention, while speaking in the winter session of the legislative assembly in Nagpur.

Raising the issue of propriety, MLA Shirole brought up the matter of school buses in Pune before the government. A recent incident of a bus transporting students to and from school catching fire has brought the issue of the safety of school buses and vans to the forefront, said Shirole.

8000 buses in Pune

There are more than 8,000 school buses and vans in Pune. All these buses and vans need to be audited, said Shirole.

"What measures should be taken in case of a school bus catching fire? Training on this should be provided by the Pune Municipal Corporation's fire department. Also, how many fire extinguishing systems should be in the bus? Where should they be installed? How should they be used? How should students be evacuated safely?" Shirole demanded that the government instruct the municipal corporations to provide training on this to school staff.
