Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday had inaugurated the development centre of Infosys in New Town near Kolkata.
While inaugurating the centre, Mamata said that nearly 2200 IT companies have presence in West Bengal including IBM, Wipro and TCS.
“West Bengal is the leading IT state in the country. With this centre of Infosys other IT companies will be motivated to come to West Bengal. From our Broadband Policy in 2020 to the Data Centre Policy in 2021 and the Cable Landing Station Policy in 2023, we’ve laid a solid foundation for the growth of IT companies. Today, 11 data centers are coming up in our Silicon Valley Hub, and over 2,200 IT companies are thriving in the state,” said Mamata.
While inviting Infosys to attend Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), the West Bengal Chief Minister also called it a ‘historic’ day for the state.
“We wanted Infosys in our state and they have fulfilled our dreams,” Mamata added.
Mamata also mentioned that West Bengal’s GDP has touched 90 lakh crore.
Notably, the new development centre of Infosys in New Town is built at a cost of Rs. 426 crore.
State IT and electronics minister Babul Supriyo said that the dream of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to make Kolkata IT Hub is becoming true.
