Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English School, CSMT clinched the 128th MSSA Harris Shield title beating Modern English School, Chembur on account of their first innings lead after the match was tied in a thrilling final at the Brabourne Stadium.
In their chase of 208, Modern English School finished at 207/6 in 40 overs with Kanav Saini's 53 the highlight of their innings while Yuvan Sharma scalped four wickets for Anjuman.
After Anjuman-I-Islam set them a competitive target of 208, Modern English School, Chembur were off to a quickfire start.
Openers Devesh Birje and Rishabh Sadake kept chugging along at a pretty good pace as they went along at a run-rate of six reaching 30/0 in five overs.
It was a strong response from the school from the eastern suburbs as they chased their first ever Harris Shield title against their more fancied opponents.
After the six over mark, Modern were at 38 without loss and Anjuman had a change in their bowling as pacer Shane Raza was replaced by spinner Salman Khan.
However, Anjuman brought themselves right back into the match after the openers Birje and Sadake were sent back to the pavilion as the game got tighter.
Raza had put the plugs on the scoring rate which climbed to six from five as the pressure mounted on Modern.
Kanav Saini's 53 gave Modern impetus and they were coasting along nicely until Yuvan Sharma sent him packing with a stump to stump line that saw his back.
At 149/4 in 31 overs, Modern School were up against it needing 59 runs off 54 balls with six wickets in hand.
The game was veering gradually towards the business end with Anjuman feeling they have a shot in the game after the dismissal of Saini, who was in fine form after cracking a half-century.
With two new batsmen in the middle in J Singh and S Sundarra, Modern English School had their task cut out.
Yuvan was the chief wrecker for Anjuman scalping three crucial wickets to keep Modern in check as they went about their chase.
The right-arm spinner continued to do the demolition act for Anjuman scalping another wicket while Modern lost two more wickets as they reached 167/6 in 35 overs.
It looked a bit of an uphill climb for Modern with 41 runs required off 30 balls and just four wickets in the kitty.
Shashwat Naik was turning it on for Modern English School as he smashed consecutive boundaries off Shane Raza as the Chembur school needed 18 runs off 12 balls.
The equation boiled down to 10 runs off the last over and it went further down the wire when three runs were required off the last ball and K Gosalia managed two runs as the game was tied.
