A man, identified as Vitthal Uttam Wagh from Bodhegaon, Phulambri, was arrested by the Satara police within 24 hours of the incident in Mahunagar. The incident took place on Monday when Vitthal fatally beat his wife, Bharti Vitthal Wagh, with an iron rod due to suspicions of her character.
As per the complaint filed by Bharti’s father, frequent quarrels between the couple arose from disagreements over living in the city rather than the village. Vitthal suspected Bharti of having an extramarital affair, leading to frequent physical abuse.
On December 15, Vitthal went to Bharti’s parents' house in Mahunagar to bring her back home. During an argument the following day, Vitthal brutally attacked Bharti with an iron rod, causing severe head injuries that ultimately led to her death. After committing the crime, Vitthal fled the scene, leaving Bharti unconscious in a pool of blood.
After conducting a thorough investigation, the Satara police, under the guidance of PI Sangram Tathe, apprehended Vitthal who was hiding in the Jamdi area. The police team, led by API Shailesh Deshmukh and other officers, successfully arrested the accused.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help in such situations.
