Next significant reform initiative under Modi's leadership?
The special two-day Lok Sabha debate on the Constitution was prompted by the Opposition's claim that it is under threat. A key point of discussion during the debate was the potential implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), an issue that has long been a subject of political and societal debate. PM Modi, during his response to the debate, referred to the UCC as a “Secular Civil Code,” signaling the government’s intent to introduce legislation that would create uniformity in civil laws across all citizens, irrespective of religion. This could mark the next significant reform initiative under Modi's leadership, aligning with the BJP's longstanding ideological commitment to the UCC. The Opposition accused the ruling coalition of undermining constitutional values, while the government projected itself as a champion of reform and progress. The discussions also hinted at the roadmap for future reforms under the current leadership.
