The heinous act of sexual assault by a 39-year-old dance teacher came to light from a reputed school situated in the Warje Malewadi Jurisdiction, where two minor students of class 4 and 6 were sexually assaulted by him.
The incident came to light on Tuesday when the parents lodged an FIR against the teacher in the Warje Police station.
The accused has been identified as Mangesh Salve (39).
Regarding the matter, a case has been registered in the Warje Malewadi police station under section 3(d), 4 (2), 5(f), 5(m), 5 (0), 6, 8, 11, 12, and 15 of the POCSO Act.
Speaking to Free Press Journal, Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3, said, "After receiving the report, we arrested the accused. The incident took place on December 9 in a well-known school in the Warje area. Students in classes 4 and 6 were studying."
One of the victims (a class 6 student) complained that the teacher had been harassing him for the past two years to their parents, and accordingly, a case has been registered.
During the investigation, another incident of assault came to light, and two separate cases were registered against him.
The school teacher is in police custody, and we are interrogating him. CCTV footage is being analysed.
"Both victims have been sent for medical examinations. The school authorities are cooperating with the investigation. We are following the legal process. If anything suspicious is found, we will take strict action against the school authorities as well," he said.
"We are running many programs for awareness such as good touch and bad touch. Moreover, we are also urging parents to interact more with their children after school hours," he added.
