Even as the Champions Trophy 2025 remains in deadlock due to the venue, newly-elected International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah has reached Brisbane to discuss the sport's inclusion in the 2032 Olympics. Shah is also likely to attend the third Test between India and Australia at the Gabba.

India and Pakistan are yet to come to terms with the venue for the multi-nation tournament, scheduled for February 19. Although Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi had resisted against the adoption of hybrid model for the competition, he recently hinted at accepting it. However, Shah is yet to make any official statement regarding the same.

"Very exciting time ahead for Cricket's involvement in the Olympics movement - a meeting with the @Brisbane_2032 organizing committee in Brisbane, Australia today," Shah posted on X with visuals of the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Brisbane 2032 organising committee chief Cindy Hook and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley. The former BCCI secretary is expected to watch the action of the third Test between India and Australia, starting at the Gabba from Saturday.

Among Shah's immediate priorities is to find a solution to the hosting of Champions Trophy in February-March. A hybrid model has been agreed by all stakeholders but no announcement has been made yet, fuelling speculations over the future of the event.

Background of 2032 Brisbane Olympics

This marked the first host city selected under the new approach to choosing Olympic hosts, which had been fully implemented in 2019. 2032 Brisbane Olympics will commence from July 23 to August 8. While Brisbane Paralympics will be held from August 24 to September 5.
