Singer Chinmayi Sripaada slammed an offensive remark made by an X user who called her a prostitute. It happened after Chinmayi shared her thoughts on the tragic suicide of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash on December 11. Amid outrage on social media surrounding the case, Chinmayi pointed out that men who are capable of mobilising support, raising funds, and pressuring companies like Accenture to act against Subhash’s wife, often fail to take similar action to ensure women’s safety.
However, her post drew an indecent response from a troll, who mentioned that she "has more than one father." Known for her fearless stance against online abuse, Chinmayi called out the user.
"#Chinmayi you are a prostitute? Your behavior shows your birth in an illegal way, you have more than one father," the user commented under her post.
Reacting to the troll, Chinmayi wrote, "The thing is - If you had had an education only one sperm and egg can make a human... Don't worry about my birth and even if I were a prostitute even my shadow wouldn’t want to be touched by the likes of you or many like you ranting away. LOL. Abusers calling themselves Mens Rights Activists. Joke."
Chinmayi is quite active on social media and she often makes headlines for her views on various social issues.
She has also been subjected to a lot of abuse on social media since she spoke out for the #MeToo movement and named some prominent figures in the Tamil film industry who exploit women and attempted to engage in sexual misconduct with girls.
On Wednesday, Chinmayi, reacting to Subhash's death, wrote on X, "One thing I understand from the Atul Subhash case is that so many of these men are capable of mobilising support, raising funds, even attempting to force Accenture to fire the woman, reaching out to top management and more. When they want to, they will. So if they haven’t done anything so far to make sure rapes and child sexual abuse happen (especially for men and male survivors of sexual violence), Or even something like corruption and holding politicians accountable - you know why."
"Some of these people wont even do the needful to set up ICCs and POCSO units in the schools they send their kids to. They dont care if their kid gets abused in school. Even if it is their kid they ll probably call them a liar by habit and attempt to close the case by settling in a police station. They don't WANT to dismantle these systems that gives them power to abuse someone else. So people here can. Just that they don't want to," she added.
