A 7-year-old boy died after falling into a pit dug for construction in Koparkhairane Sector-5 on Wednesday evening. The deceased boy has been identified as Ankit Pansing Thangunna.
According to police, the pit, where Ankit fell and lost his life, had no safety measures in place around it, which led to him accidentally falling while playing. The Koparkhairane police have registered an accidental death case and have started further investigation. The pit was around 15 by 8 foot deep, filled with water.
Thangunna who lived in Koparkhairane Sector-5, was a student at Jijamata Convent School in Sector-4. On Wednesday evening, after returning home from school, he went out to play with the other children in the area. While playing near a municipal school, Ankit lost his balance and fell into a pit dug for construction.
The children playing with him immediately informed their parents, and local residents rushed to the spot. They pulled Ankit out of the pit, which had water in it, and rushed him to Vashi general hospital. However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival. "We have registered a report of accidental death and are investigating further. Appropriate case would be taken against the negligent ones," senior police inspector Audumber Patil from Koparkhairane police station said.
