Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police had killed his wife and her sister following a family dispute, in Aishbag area, police said here on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested by Mandla police in the evening, while he was on the run. The killings took place in broad daylight in Aishbag police station area, at around 10.30 am on Tuesday. DCP, Priyanka Shukla informed that accused ASI Yogesh Maravi is posted in police station Mavai of Mandla district. Prima facie evidence shows that the killings were carried out due to a family dispute.

Accused wife Vinita and her sister Megha were staying together in a colony in Aishbag area.
‘At around 10.30 am, Megha’s house help came for duty. When she called Megha, Vinita opened the door. Meanwhile, accused ASI Yogesh entered the house and locked the door from inside. Later the maid heard women crying and shouting for help’, she said. The maid asked neighbours for help, but none responded. She then called one of the relatives of the two women and narrated the incident.

After a few minutes, the ASI came out from the house and locked it from outside and fled. When relatives came and broke the door open, they found the two women lying in a pool of blood. They were taken to hospital but the doctors declared them brought dead. Police came and searched CCTV cameras installed near the building.

The cops found a car, bearing a Chhattisgarh number plate in which it was seen that the accused had absconded. The matter was reported to Mandla police and other police stations. Bhopal police formed three teams to nab the accused ASI. When the car reached Pindrai police post area of Mandla district, the accused ASI and driver Mohit Panririya were caught and the car was seized. Mandla police informed their Bhopal counterparts about the arrest. Bhopal police brought the ASI to the city and began an investigation.
