A very interesting incident from the political field highlights certain spiritual lessons. Just five months ago, the opposition parties were on a great high, especially in Maharashtra, after their Lok Sabha success, and the ruling coalition, the NDA had a poor showing. But in these few months, the whole scenario has been reversed. The opposition has almost been decimated, and the ruling party is now on its high.
This highlights a very important spiritual truth: Nothing is certain in life. Life is full of uncertainties, and maturity in the spiritual world is about how well you can handle these ups and downs, these uncertainties.
If one looks at an ordinary human being’s life- your children are doing well, but you have missed out on a promotion. You are doing extremely well but your wife is not well. Everything seems to be going smoothly and your parent dies of a sudden heart attack. There are endless incidents of ups and downs—that's why it's called uncertainty. It's not predictable.
Statistics and astrology can help you predict patterns, but only to an extent. Life is a huge matrix of karma. There are so many things influencing each other that all these systems—whether scientific statistics or non-scientific astrology—can only give you insights into what is happening, hoping that your plans can be better.
Whether you're a political leader, an industrialist, or an ordinary person on the street, one thing is certain: you will face uncertain situations in life. Therefore, it's sensible to keep your plans fluid enough to be able to take care of that uncertainty. Even if you keep it fluid, there will always be something that will surprise you.
There is one thing you can always do: keep your balance and your equanimity, by whatever means necessary such as meditative practices and your trust in Bhagavan. It is this that contributes to spiritual maturity and growth, because our journey on Earth is a life of learning and growth. We come with nothing. We go with nothing. All that we take with us are, our karma and our growth.
