"Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has prepared the Kham River Flood Analysis Report, which will help tackle flood situations in the future," opined CSMC administrator G Srikanth. He was speaking during the release of the report at the CSMC headquarters on Tuesday.

CSMC, along with experts from the Alubium Institute, with assistance from the Government of Maharashtra and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has analyzed the flood situation of Kham River and prepared the flood modeling report.

Experts from the Institute and CSMC officers conducted a study of the seven-kilometer stretch covered by Kham River. The study considers the flood situation over the next 25 to 100 years after accumulating water in Harsul Lake. It also studies changes in the flow of Kham River after rainfall. A web portal for flood management has been created following the study, Srikanth said.

Three workshops were organized in March, July, and September 2024 during the study, where the administrator, additional municipal commissioner, city engineer, deputy director of town planning, all executive engineers, ward engineers, ward officers, fire brigade officers, chief disaster management officer, and others provided their valuable observations and recommendations.

The final report, developed in consultation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and UNDP, was presented to the corporation, with chief disaster management officer Swapnil Sardar making significant efforts.

The report was made public on Tuesday by G Srikanth. Additional Commissioner Ranjeet Patil, Santosh Wahule, A B Deshmukh, Manoj Garge, Dr. Paras Mandlecha, Ankush Pandhare, Lakhichand Chavan, Aparna There, Amol Kulkarni, Farooq Khan, Mohini Gaikwad, K M Falak, Swapnil Sardar, and other officers were present.
