The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in collaboration with National Investigation Agency (NIA) has successfully facilitated the return of wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Salman Rehman Khan from Rwanda through Interpol channels.
Salman Rehman Khan, along with his associate Junaid Ahmad, was absconding in a high-profile case involving the radicalisation of inmates at Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. The case, originally registered by Bengaluru City Police further led to detection of cache of arms and ammunition which included seven pistols, four hand grenades, one magazine, 45 live rounds, and four walkie-talkies.
The CBI said in a statement that Khan is accused of offences like criominal conspiracy, being member of terrorist organisation, supporting a terrorist organisation and other crimes with relation to Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act.
"CBI on request of NIA had got Red Notice issued against the subject from INTERPOL on 02-08-2024 and was circulated to all law enforcement agencies globally for tracking of the wanted criminal. The subject was subsequently geolocated in the Rwanda with close assistance from INTERPOL National Central Bureau - Kigali. He was returned to India on 28-11-2024 by a security team from NIA," said CBI in the statement the agency published on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
