Mumbai City FC's nine-match winning streak was ended by Punjab FC in the Indian Super League 3-0 at their home stadium on Tuesday. The loss disgruntled the fans who were unhappy with the result. However, Mumbai City FC midfielder Yoell van Nieff pacified the crowd following the performance of the team.

In the video shared by the Indian Super League social media handle, Van Nieff can be heard asking if they only support the side when they win and quickly urged them to stick by the players even during losses.

He said, "You only support us when we are winning?" We need you not only when we are winning, but also when we are losing. We really appreciate you. And we need your support. We're disappointed. You guys are disappointed. This is normal. This is how life is. This is how football is. We are in this together,"

Mumbai City FC loses to Punjab FC

Punjab FC registered a dominating win (3-0) over Mumbai City FC courtesy of goals from Ezequiel Vidal, Luka Majcen, and Mushaga Bakenga.

The opening goal came in the first-half stoppage time when Luka Majcen set up Vidal with a perfectly weighted pass. Vidal’s powerful left-footed strike from outside the box rocketed into the top left corner, giving Punjab FC a crucial lead heading into half-time.

Early in the second half, Filip Mrzljak drew a foul inside the box, earning Punjab FC a penalty. Majcen confidently stepped up and sent a low shot into the bottom left corner. Punjab FC sealed the game late in the second half when Mushaga Bakenga capitalised on a precise cross from Ninthoinganba Meetei. 

Following the loss, Mumbai City FC are currently in the 10th spot in the league standings with just 2 wins to their name.
