Thane: Five flats on the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventieth floors of Vertex High Rise building have been gutted by fire after a fire broke out in the fifteenth floor's a flat owned by Santosh Shetty. The Kalyan Fire Station's fire department said that residents may move back into their flats after conducting a structural audit of the said flats.

On Tuesday, the entire building's residents has been evacuated due to fire spreading to other flats. The civic officials permitted the residents of the other floors to live in their respective flats after conducting a preliminary investigation of the building to determine if it was safe or not.

Namdev Chaudhary, chief of Kalyan fire station, said that the fire has been doused by the building's fire system. The incident was reported at 5:48 PM, and the fire was brought under control within three hours. Five flats were occupied, and residents were living on the fifteenth and sixteenth floors, while one resident lived on the seventieth floor. The residents of the upper floors were rescued by the team.

The civic officials said that the society of the building will conduct the structural audit because the flats were gutted by fire and check an elevator system of the building.

MLA Vishwanath Bhoir from Kalyan West criticized the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation's fire system, saying that the high fire ladder vehicle had not functioned to extinguish the fire when the fire broke out at Vertex high-rise building.

He questioned who would have taken responsibility if any casualties had occurred during the fire mishap. Bhoir further stated that it was a complete failure of the KDMC administration. He slammed KDMC officials, insisting that they should ensure safety measures for the citizens if they collect taxes from them.
