Navi Mumbai: Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur and Uran MLA Mahesh Baldi have called for an urgent meeting with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) regarding the functioning of the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) Authority. They have formally requested this meeting with CIDCO's Vice President and Managing Director, emphasizing the concerns of local farmers.
In their statement, Thakur and Baldi highlighted that CIDCO has issued numerous notices concerning houses and constructions within the NAINA Planning Authority limits. These houses, built by farmers on their own land, are now under threat of action from CIDCO, which the MLAs argue is an infringement on the farmers' rights. Despite repeated directives to cease such actions, CIDCO's approach has been perceived as tyrannical.
The MLAs stressed that if CIDCO wishes to foster development in the area, it cannot continue to treat farmers in this manner. They have demanded an immediate meeting with farmer representatives to discuss any upcoming development steps. Additionally, they warned that if CIDCO continues its unfair treatment of farmers, they are prepared to organize strong protests against the administration.
Meanwhile CIDCO initiated infrastructure projects worth Rs 2,550.58 crore in the Town Planning Scheme (TPS) II and VII of the NAINA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated these works during his visit to the city on October 5.
The development in NAINA includes the construction of integrated infrastructure such as 60-meter and 45-meter wide roads, flyovers, bridges, vehicular underpasses (VUPs), pedestrian underpasses (PUPs), and street lighting.
Furthermore, the project encompasses 17.59 kilometers of road work, including 3.71 kilometers of 60-meter roads, 13.28 kilometers of 45-meter roads, and 0.6 kilometers of 30-meter roads.
It also includes 26.66 kilometers of stormwater drains and utility trenches, 32.93 kilometers of water supply networks, and 25.768 kilometers of sewerage networks. The official mentioned that the completion of these works is expected within 36 months from the date of the bhoomipujan.
The NAINA area includes 174 villages within a 25-kilometer radius of the proposed airport. However, CIDCO will not develop the gaothans, which are already inhabited and do not require further planning agency intervention.
Of these 174 villages, 80 fall under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is also developing certain areas, mainly along the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).
