The two-day IPL 2025 mega auction which recently concluded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia saw 10 franchises spending a total of 639.15 crores. The entire amount was spent on 182 players that were sold in the auction which also included 62 foreign players.
Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for ₹27 crores, while Shreyas Iyer was the second expensive buy. It has to be noted that the players will not get the entire amount that they are brought for since tax deduction is deducted from their auction amount.
How does tax deduction worked for Indian and overseas players?
The IPL franchise deducts this tax in the form of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) before making payment to the player. As per the Indian government rules 10% tax is deducted from the salary of Indian players, while 20% tax is deducted from the salary of foreign players.
How much money will Rishabh Pant, Jos Buttler and Shreyas Iyer get after tax deduction?
According to Indian Income tax rules, ₹8.1 crores will be deducted from Pant's IPL salary, and instead of ₹27 crores, he will earn just ₹18.9 crores. Shreyas Iyer, will face a 30% tax deduction and will receive just ₹18,72,50,000 from ₹26.75 crore he received during the auction. Butler on the other hand was sold for ₹15.75 crore and after tax deduction he will receive just ₹12.60 crore
IPL 2025 Mega auction breaks record for total spending
IPL 2025 mega auction became the the costliest auction ever, eclipsing the ₹551.7 crore spent in IPL 2022, the previous record-holder. In IPL 2025 mega auction multiple players breach the ₹20 crore mark. After two days of frenzied spending by the ten teams, the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings eventually emerged as the biggest spenders in this year’s mega auction, with only ₹5 lakh remaining in their respective transfer kitties at the end of Day 2 of the bidding.
