In a significant breakthrough, Unit 5 of Pune Police's Crime Branch apprehended a man involved in a housebreaking incident at Marvel Arco Society, a high-end residential society in Hadapsar, and recovered stolen gold ornaments worth ₹11,59,500 on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Anil Khadka (25), a resident of Malwadi, Hadapsar (originally from Nepal).

According to the police, on November 25, while conducting crime-prevention patrols in the Hadapsar Police Station jurisdiction, the police received a tip-off that Khadka was planning to sell stolen gold ornaments at Amar Dham Crematorium in Malwadi. The ornaments were linked to a housebreaking case reported on November 22 at Marvel Arco Society.

Acting promptly, the police deployed teams at the location. At the Amar Dham Crematorium, Khadka was moving suspiciously while looking around. Upon confirming his identity, the crime branch team tactfully laid a trap and apprehended him.

On questioning, he confessed to stealing gold ornaments from a flat in Marvel Arco Society and intending to sell them. A search of his person revealed gold ornaments weighing 173.500 grams, valued at ₹11,59,500.

Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare, said, "The accused was working as a watchman in the same society. He was aware that the owner of the flat was not available. Accordingly, he planned and stole gold ornaments. The accused has been arrested, and the investigation is underway. The recovered valuables were seized. Under Section 305(a) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a case has been registered at Hadapsar Police Station."
