Pune City Crime Branch's trained sniffer dog, Leo, a labrador retriever, passed away on Tuesday due to an esophageal illness. His last rites were held at the Pune Metropolitan Animal Crematorium near Pune Railway Station.

Leo, born on July 20, 2016, joined the police force on September 20, 2016, specialising in narcotics detection.

Notably, on December 28, 2019, Leo played a key role in an operation under Kondhwa Police Station, leading to the seizure of MD drugs and 50 kg of cannabis from a Nigerian national.

On August 31, 2022, at Loni Kalbhor Police Station, Leo detected 70 kg of cannabis hidden in a field.

In addition to these major cases, Leo regularly conducted inspections at railway stations, bus stands, and Yerawada Jail, helping uncover narcotics and ensuring public safety. He also showcased his skills during demonstrations for Indian Army personnel and students at various schools.

Leo's passing was marked by an official ceremony attended by senior police officials, where tributes were paid to him, accompanied by a full police guard of honour.
