DIMAPUR — International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women-cum-launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and Nayi Chetna 3.0 (Gender Campaign) was observed on Monday on the theme “Unite to end violence against women” at the Town Council Hall, Chümoukedima. The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission, and the district administrations of Chümoukedima and Dimapur. Speaking at the event as the special guest, secretary of Social Welfare Martha R Ritse stated that violence against women is the most pervasive breach of human rights worldwide, transcending age, geographical boundaries, economic status, and social standing. She noted that violence can take many forms, including domestic and online abuse, and unfortunately, this global reality is also reflected in the data received within the state. She highlighted that data from the Women Helpline Nagaland and one stop centres indicates that, over the past three to four years, the majority of violence-related cases reported have been instances of domestic violence.
